How to Increase Website Engagement: SEO, Homepage Optimization & CTA Tips
When opening your own business or organization, one of the most common things to do is to start a website. This is where your clients can gather information, where you have touchpoints with them, and where they can reach out to you to gather more information. However, a lot of the time, it feels like websites have difficulty engaging clients, which then makes converting those clients difficult. So what can you do to increase your website engagement?
Optimize your Homepage
One of the most important and visited pages is the Homepage. This is the page that introduces your company, its values, and what it does. This should be and will be the most visited page on your website. This page will make or break if your viewers want to learn more. It should inspire questions but also confidence in your brand. So what helps engage your homepage viewers? First, be aware that when people are looking at a website, especially the first part of it, before they have to start scrolling, they look in a “Z,” so ensuring that the first part of the home page is set up to that format will help the viewer know what they are looking at. The first part of the home page should have a heading and a subheading. The Heading should have between 5 and 8 words that perfectly describe who you are, whereas the subheading should be 1-2 sentences as a more detailed description of what you do. On the right side, place either a photo or some sort of Branded Video content to gather the eye, and then finally a CTA (call to action) at the bottom left of the subheading. As an example, take a look at the first part of our home page and review the “Z” pattern.
Second, since the Home page is where your clients are going to begin their journey needs to give a very quick and concise idea of who you are. Your webpage needs to talk about who your company is, who your ideal customer is, and what solutions you offer. This does not need to be in detail, but enough information that it gives the viewer a clear understanding of who you are and what you are about. Adding photos or branded video content will help keep the viewers on your site longer than if there are just words. So make sure you add some visuals to keep interest. The longer they stay, the more impression you are leaving and the more of a chance they will reach out.
Niche SEO Keywords
Another way to increase website engagement is to make sure that you are ranking in SEO. The term SEO can seem very intimidating and impossible for a small business owner to use, but in reality, if you know your business, you are already at a great start. SEO (Search engine optimization) is really using keywords to boost traffic to your website through ranking. The more SEO words you use correctly, the better your website will rank and the more clicks and visitors on your website you will have. This will require some research to determine what words people are searching and what words are similar, but some resources you can use would be Google Keyword Planner, where you can research and ask what keywords people are searching, which are directly or indirectly associated with your organization. If you have not been using SEO words or you are not ranking high, we would suggest combing through your website to add and adjust the language to include the SEO keywords that are searched.
Call to Action
Finally, another way to increase Website engagement that produces results is by adding a CTA. A CTA is a call to action. Giving information is great, but without a way to act on it that is clear and concise, you will be losing a great opportunity. A CTA offers your visitors a clear way to get more information or to contact you. Examples of a CTA would be a button colored with a secondary color that has words that say “get a quote’ which then leads to a quote page, or “Contact Us,” which leads to a contact page, or even “Learn more,” which can lead to a product page or your about us page. The best places to put these are at the top right of the website (remember that “Z” pattern of viewing?), the bottom of the web page, and also right after selling points, what products you offer, or how you are different from those in the market. Below are active examples of CTA’s.
There are a lot of ways to increase your website engagement, but something to remember is that websites are like plants, ever-growing and changing. So, to have a well-producing website, make sure to dedicate time to updating and maintaining it through SEO observations, optimizing the home pages, and watching the CTA conversions. While doing this, your website will start getting more traffic and become more engaging.
